Strategic Intervention
for High Risk Youth ( SIHRY )
Program Description:
Intensive Family Mentoring
and Youth enrichment experiences to children living in the East Side of Bridgeport
who are at risk of involvement with drugs and/or the judicial system as well as
experiencing problems in school. The Strategic Intervention for High Risk Youth
( SIHRY ) is a child centered family focused model that provides for comprehensive
and integrated services designed to prevent drug abuse and delinquency among high-riks
youth and promotes healthy development among vulnerable children. The youth and
their families receive family mentoring which helps to increase the social skills
and positive decision making of youth at high risk of substance abuse behaviour,
criminal involvement, teen pregnancy, academic failure, and addressing issues arising
from family situations such as substance abuse, domestic violence, etc. Family Mentors
also enrich the experience youth have and expose them to alternative life styles.
The youth and their families are also provided with case management and supportive
counseling.
Program Eligibility:
To be eligible to receive SIHRY services,
the youth must be between the ages of 11 to 13, attend either Luis Munoz Marin or
Garfields schools, live in the East Side of Bridgeport, and must meet specific indicators
of school risk, family risk and either possible or actual Juvenile Court involvement.
Accessing Services:
Request for services are accepted from the collaborating
agencies which form the Co-location team. The program operates from the Child Guidance
Center and may be accessed during regular working
hours Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by calling 203 394 6529
Client Fees:
There is no fees to the youth or family for participating
in the SIHRY program.
